  1. I'm going to be talking about the last pictures:

Describe: This artwork is by Lydia Chapman and the size is undeterminable because it is digital. This is a picture of what seems to be some berries or a flower with water droplets hanging off. This is a work of realism seeing as how there is a large amount of detail. It could perhaps be considered a work of surrealism since the background it so out of focus.

Analysis: She utilized texture, form, value, space, repetition, and emphasis. The drops have very definitive texture and serve to accentuate the form of the berries. There's repetition in shapes and forms because it is a bunch and these repeating forms contrast against the out-of-focus background to create emphasis on the subject and a sense of space.

Analysis: Perhaps she is trying to comment on the fragility of nature or maybe she is telling the audience to stop and appreciate mother nature's little idiosyncrasies. We oftentimes forget to stop and smell the flowers, to use an old cliche, and I think that she's trying to bring us to that place. With her piece the artist is trying to slow us down, to make us listen to what mother nature has to say, to bask in the beauty of the little things.

Evaluate: I think this work is successful because it did make me stop and look at it. The texture and attention to detail caught my eye and I found myself wanting to look at the piece and figure out what the thoughts behind it were. It made me feel very tranquil and relaxed and I think the artist accomplished what she set out to do.

  2. I'm suprisingly impressed with your lightbulb photos. I see an overall theme of indoor versus outdoor in your work. I am most captivated by your high contrast photos, such as the lightbulb photos, which show light in an interesting way. I think you should take more photos of buildings/architecture to continue with your indoor versus outdoor theme.
